1893

Stanley Wine Company founded by: J.H. Knappstein, Dr. O. Wein-Smith, Magnus Badger and John Christison.

1894

Clare Jam Factory purchased for use as a winery.

1895

The doors opened for business and the Stanley Wine Company produced its first vintage of 11,356 gallons. Wines from this first vintage received awards in the Adelaide Show.

1897

First shipment of Stanley wine: 150 cases to Western Australia.

1902

Work commenced on installation of a brandy still and rectifying plant.

1903

J.H. Knappstein travelled to the United Kingdom, seeking markets for Clare wines.

1919

J.H. Knappstein died. Business was then controlled by a trustee company.

1938

Control of the company reverted to the Knappstein family and Fred W. Knappstein became the manager.

1948

Vineyards were established in the Watervale area.

1950

Against all advice, the company planted Rhine Riesling extensively.

1969

Bin 7 Riesling launched.

1970

The first vintage of the multi-award-winning Bin 56 Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec.

1971

Stanley Wine Company was taken over by H.J. Heinz with the Knappstein family still shareholders.

1972

Bin 61 Shiraz launched.

1976

The Knappstein family sold its remaining shares.

1984

The Clare Valley winery concentrated on producing fine table wines while the company moved production of Stanley casks to Buronga, NSW.

1985

Mick Knappstein retired after 57 years with the winery.

1987

Mick Knappstein received an Order of Australia for his services to the wine industry.

1988

Thomas Hardy & Sons purchased Stanley Wine Company.

1989

On 8 June, Barbara Weise, South Australian Minister of Tourism, officially opened a $2-million upgrade of the vineyard, winery, cellar door and garden area. Stanley Wine Company officially became Leasingham Wines.

1993

Leasingham celebrated 100 years in the Clare Valley by creating the Classic Clare Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.

1995

Our 1994 Classic Clare Shiraz won the famous Jimmy Watson Trophy at the Melbourne Wine Show. Leasingham won the Adelaide Hyatt Regency Wine of the Year.

1998

Bin 56 won 2 trophies at the Canberra Wine Show.

2000

The 1997 Classic Clare Shiraz was named Wine of the Year and Australia's Best Shiraz by Winestate. The 1996 Classic Clare Shiraz was awarded the Max Schubert Trophy at the Royal Adelaide Wine Show.

2001

Achieved ISO14001 accreditation for environmental management.

2003

The 1999 Bin 56 was awarded two gold medals and Best Cabernet of Show at the San Francisco International Wine Competition.

2005

US publication, Wine & Spirits Magazine, lists Leasingham as one of the world's top 100 wine producers.

2006

Release of the Leasingham Magnus and Circa ranges. Classic Clare Riesling awarded Single Estate (best) award at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London.
